OTOPLASTY

We all have different shapes and sizes of ears and not everybody is happy with the way they look. Otoplasty or ear surgery is a procedure that lets you have the desirable size and shape of the ear. This corrective surgery is done under local or general anesthesia. It is always best to perform this type of surgery when the child is 5 or 10 years old because the ear is fully developed at that age, the cartilage of the ear is strong enough for the surgeon to give it a new shape and get good results. Also it saves the child from bullying at the school and be confident about the physical appearance. You cannot see any scars after the surgery because all the stitches are done in the back of the ear.

The procedure involves reshaping the cartilage and removing the extra fat and bringing the auricle closer to the head. For ear reduction surgery both skin and cartilage of the ear is being removed to get the desired results. Surgery takes 1 to 2 hours*. A head band is worn over ears at night only for 6 to 8 weeks* after the surgery.

This surgery cannot be performed on heart patients, diabetics, pregnant women and excessive cigarette smokers.
